This video popped up in my Facebook feed recently. Start by watching this video before continuing.

Well, doesn’t Mandy put life into perspective? How many times have I told myself I cannot have something I really want or felt trapped by something in life? How often do I find I don’t have what I want?

So, then I see this video of Mandy who decided being deaf does not mean she cannot be a singer. I am a musician, and I know I rely on my hearing heavily to be doing the right thing at the right time. Not only did Mandy decide she was going to try, she wrote the song and put herself out there in such a big way.

I am magnificent at telling myself stories which only hold me back. One of my favourite stories lately is “I don’t have time.” I have a million others like “I don’t know how” or “I’m not smart enough for that.”

No one promised me life is going to be easy. There are a million things in the way of what I want, and truthfully the only thing stopping me is me.

It’s up to me to choose how I live my life. And when I feel I can’t have what I want, or I’m feeling stuck I know “There is no one for me to blame but me” — Mandy Harvey

Thought of the week

What do you want more than anything else in the world, and yet this morning it seems unachievable? Now think about the stories you’ve been telling yourself about why you can’t have that thing you want so badly.

Ask yourself “how long do I want to keep telling myself those stories, as I’m the only reason I don’t have what I want?”

Sorry to burst your bubble, but life takes hard work and sometimes the cards you get dealt just suck. It’s time to choose. I want you to choose the life you want, and go for it!

Anytime you feel you can’t have the life you want, remind yourself of Mandy Harvey — “There is no one for me to blame but me”
